While the personal approach remains a valid means of expression, the modern day blogger should at least make an effort to be understood by a wider range of readers. While blogging was once primarily a way to share your innermost thoughts and ideas to the world, the vast popularity of blogging has resulted in countless pages seemingly dedicated to trivial posts. There is certainly nothing stopping you from doing the same today if you wish, although you can hardly expect everyone who comes across your blog to be interested in the minutiae of your day to day life. You may therefore want to start blogging about more things that would be interesting to your readers, instead of merely blogging about what you had for lunch! You should strive to write from a position of authority.
