Data from the portable scanner is transferred onto the laptop so it can be managed and edited later. Scanning software is usually provided with most of the portable scanners that are on the market today. This software enables the user to be able to control the scanning process. You can also find a portable scanner that will scan both sides of the document for you. These are called duplex scanners.
