While the personal approach remains a valid means of expression, the modern day blogger should at least make an effort to be understood by a wider range of readers. Blogging was originally used as a way for people to get their thoughts out on the Internet regardless of how trivial or insignificant they may seem to be. There is certainly nothing stopping you from doing the same today if you wish, although you can hardly expect everyone who comes across your blog to be interested in the minutiae of your day to day life. You may therefore want to start blogging about more things that would be interesting to your readers, instead of merely blogging about what you had for lunch! A good blog is always written by someone who knows what he is talking about. You will greatly increase the chances of your blog's success if the subject that you are writing about is something that you are passionate about or at least have some degree of familiarity in.
